Black Lives Matter - Thursday, June 11, 12 Noon for 8 Minutes, 46 Seconds—Stop Work

As trade unionists and as Americans, we were all outraged by the vicious murder of George Floyd. We are heartened by the uprising of hundreds of thousands of Americans, Black, Brown and White, demanding an end to racism and declaring: “Black Lives Matter.”
Because of Covid-19, it has been difficult for many of us to show our solidarity with this movement. However, on Thursday, June 11, at 12 noon in each time zone, CWA members and allies across the globe will take a stand against racism

Statement from the CWA Executive Board on the Need to Dismantle the Racism that Plagues Our Communities

As we reach a tragic milestone of 100,000 deaths due to COVID-19, we find ourselves confronting the other plague that has been rampaging through our communities since long before the pandemic: Racism. Compounding the devastation of a global pandemic, which has disproportionately impacted Black communities, Black people in America continue to face threats, brutality, and death for going out jogging. For being poor. For sleeping in their own bed. For watching birds in a park. For being Black.

The Heroes Act Protects and Compensates Essential Workers

The HEROES Act (H.R. 6800), $3T relief package, passed the House late last night mostly along partisan lines with a 208-199 vote.
14 Democrats voted against the bill, including Axne, Cunningham, Davids, Finkenauer, Golden, Horn, Jayapal, Lamb, Luria, McAdams, Schrader, Spanberger, Torres Small, and Wild.
1 Republican voted for the bill: King (NY)
Several motions to recommit by the Republicans were defeated.

Wisconsin Voter Update

Breaking Election Updates. A federal judge just ruled on election-related lawsuits. U.S. District Judge William Conley declined to postpone the election, but gave voters additional time to cast an absentee ballot.

What Wisconsin Voters Need to Know:

Absentee ballots can be requested until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3.
Absentee ballots returned to clerks by 4:00 p.m. on April 13 will be counted.
